A new report is questioning Maritime Electric’s plan to install a pair of diesel generators in Prince Edward Island, stating there could be a cheaper option: batteries.
The public utility has an application before the Island Regulatory and Appeals Commission (IRAC) to add two 50-megawatt generators, but the report says installing a 100-megawatt battery energy storage system could cost less.
The report was commissioned by IRAC and carried out by Synapse Energy Economics.
