N.S. energy minister open to co-ordinating grids in Atlantic Canada
Ecology Action Centre report says this could lower costs and improve reliability
Nova Scotia’s energy minister is open to more integration of the power grids across the Atlantic provinces. His comments followed a report from the Ecology Action Centre recommending better coordination to improve reliability and lower costs.
“If there’s any benefits to ratepayers or to system reliability, I’m interested,” Marco MacLeod told reporters on Thursday, adding the idea is gaining traction from Ottawa’s energy plans.
The report, Pathways to Regional Electricity Integration for Atlantic Canada, outlines steps the Atlantic provinces could take to enable collaboration between electricity systems across the region. It looks at how that work is already being done in New England, the central U.S. and California.
