This spring, the Island Regulatory and Appeals Commission (IRAC) commissioned a review of Maritime Electric's proposal to build a 100 MW diesel power plant on the Charlottetown waterfront. The review is in, and it's scathing. It expertly explains why a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is a better investment, regardless of how you approach the issue. Economics, environmental stewardship, reliability, and energy independence all point to the clean energy option as the responsible choice.

The Government of Prince Edward Island has established an independent review of the Island Regulatory and Appeals Commission (IRAC). The review aims to ensure IRAC remains effective, transparent, accountable, and aligned with modern best practices in regulation and administrative decision-making.

IRAC is the regulatory body that oversees energy prices and Maritime Electric's proposals for new infrastructure. Energy Democracy Now! Co-operative is presenting our key recommendations at the upcoming presentation session in Charlottetown on July 6th at 1 pm. The presentations are open to the public.
